Along with Maytag, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is announcing a voluntary recall for approximately 1.7 million Maytag dishwashers. There has been found to be a danger of electrical problems in the unit’s heating element, which if left unchecked has been found to cause a possibility of fire. So far Maytag has been apprised of twelve incidents of fires resulting from the faulty heating elements, causing damage to the appliances, and one case involving significant fire damage to the kitchen, fortunately there are no reports of injury.
The recall involves the following models, the model and serial numbers can be found on a tag on the plastic tub by the left side of the door opening:

The affected models were made in the United States, and manufactured in the colors black, white, bisque, silver and stainless steel. They were sold in stores around the country between 2/2006 and 4/2010, and priced from $250 to $900.
Those effected should discontinue the use of their dishwasher immediately, make sure that the unit is disconnected from the electrical source by turning off the circuit breaker or fuse connected to it, advise all members of the household of the danger and the importance of not using the unit. Consumers may then call Maytag to make sure their model is part of the recall, and if it is they can make an appointment to receive a free repair from a Maytag specialist, or they may choose a rebate for a variety of new Maytag dishwashers. Consumers will receive a $150 rebate on the purchase of models MDB7759, MDB7609 or MDBH979, or a $250 rebate on models MDB8959, MDB8859, MDB7809 or MDB7709. Returning the appliance to the store of purchase is not an option at this time.

Do not go into a kitchen remodeling project without some planning. In face lots of planning, it will save you a lot of headaches when you start. Figure out what you want first, and how much you want o pay. Then and only then should you go out and find a kitchen contractors. Look online or do it the old fashion way, ask your friends and neighbors.
