Consumers with more options than ever

Consumers typically hold on to household appliances unnecessarily because they are unaware of many of the available disposal recyclable programs operating in their communities. Consumers with aging appliances have access to an increasing number of options to discard of their inefficient appliances. Consumers who want to discard aging appliances can do so in one of several ways.

Local utility in a given community are partnering more frequently throughout the U.S. to sponsor recycling events. Consumers with older appliances within a given community are handed rebates for properly recycling their appliances. These programs have a set threshold in place for the age of the refrigerator or other appliance being recycled.

Utility companies who service an area may have an existing recycling program in place. This type of program is usually funded through a partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency. The utility company may even offer pickup services. Residents may find that there is a limit as to how many appliances can be recycled in a year’s time. This type of program may issue a check to the resident within a 30-day period.

Communities also run monthly recycling programs. In this type of program, a resident can drop the appliance off on an assigned day each month. Some of these programs are even free, offering an unlimited number of trips to residents. With this type of program, there will be a window of time in which the appliances can be dropped off.

Some companies offer credits to customers who purchase new appliances from them. The credit is applied toward the retail value of the new appliance. Some of the retailers issue credits regardless of whether or not the appliance is in working condition.

Most washer repair offices in Los Angeles have information available on these programs. Most of these programs are designed with the intent of keeping aging appliances out of the landfills. Consumers can eliminate clutter and reduce energy costs within their households while doing something good for the environment. Consumers now have more options than ever to dispose of older, less energy-efficient appliances. In Los Angeles, Washer repair experts can help residents find nearby recycling programs.
